The SDK and REST API sign in with a team API key. The hosted MCP server does not need one: you sign in with your Kadoa account instead. Only the local stdio MCP server reads a key, from KADOA_API_KEY.

Create a key

Go to Settings > General and generate the key. Only Admins and Owners can do this. Send the key in the x-api-key header, or pass it to the SDK client.

How keys work

  • Keys start with tk- and belong to the team, not to a person.
  • Actions made with a key appear under the team’s service account, not under a member. The service account is listed with your members.
  • Destinations and scripts that use a key keep working when members leave or change roles.
  • The Activity log shows which actions were automated and which were manual.
Store keys in a secret manager. Never paste a key into a prompt or a chat.
